VersIC
is a new approach to the management of IC Design data. It provides a comprehensive,
unified and reliable Design Data Management (DDM) experience in the Cadence design environment.
VersIC was designed to be back-end repository independent with a modular architecture
for off-the-shelf Revision Control tools. Users today may choose from either Subversion
or Perforce although custom Subversion clients, CVS and "home-grown" configuration-management
implementations are also easily integrated. VersIC's tight integration into existing
EDA tools and methodologies enables users to benefit from advanced design management features
without changing their current work flow.
VersIC was developed for IC Designers by IC Designers and layers a number of
important tools over the generic lock/modify/release functionality including:
Visual Diffs
show the history between layout/schematic versions using visuallayer overlays. This is done
intelligently and can differentiate between ECO's, functional changes etc.
Repository Data Mining Tools
to determine the actual state of a project and to derive heuristics to help
plan for subsequent designs
Shared Library Management
when only a subset of the user-base is actively committing
to the managed library (eg. a standard-cell library) or when
snapshots of a design library need to be released to the user-base
in a staged fashion
Hierarchy Management
for handling hierarchical block dependencies
Local Metadata Caching
to reduce backend repository interaction and network traffic
Distributed Design Team Support
using remote 'slave' repositories to minimize expensive WAN traffic
Embedded User Access Control
allowing native access control for groups/users/cellviews
controlled by a simple configuration file
Bugzilla Integration
enables you to seamlessly manage your Bugzilla defects from within Cadence
as part of the checkin process
Persistent Sync
for syncing your local workspace to a composite set, managed by an
simple ascii control file
Cadence ADE Integration
enabling Perforce/Subversion management of Analog Artist simulation state cellviews
Auto-Management of Skill-Created CellViews
enables cellviews created programmatically by Skill to be automatically checked-in
as the script executes
High-Availability Repository Replication
Real-time data replication to a secondary server or remote location. Yields high availability, offsite replication, and hot backups.
Other solutions claim to bring value to the Design Data Management process when in reality they are
a very thin layer over the backend database. With VersIC the configuration-management
backend integration is a small piece of the overall methodology and toolset.
